The Caterpillar 950H Wheel Loader in 1:50th scale was released by Norscot in 2007 with #55196.

With this scale model of the Caterpillar 950H Wheel Loader Norscot shows in my opinion that they are able to deliver a perfectly made scale model if given the space.

The model not only has a beautifully engineered hitch complete with hydraulic lines, but is also equipped with cab doors that open! That is a unique feature in this price quality range diecast scale models. In addition, the model is completed with sturdy rubber tires with authentic tread pattern and detailed wheel hubs.

The front axle is fixed to the chassis but the rear axle does not oscillate like it should. The articulating chassis is functional with a pair of hydraulic cylinders controlling the steering movement and has a good degree of movement.

The rear of the model features detailed cooling grill with rear facing work lights and steps fitted to the counterweight and even has a tow bar for a trailer or towed roller.

The Caterpillar 950H Wheel Loader model has accurately scaled handrails and the cab exterior is completed with front and rear work lights which have painted lenses and the required grab rails on both sides of the cab. Front and rear windscreen wipers are fitted and if the cab doors are opened they reveal a detailed operator station, complete with controls, steering wheel and console. Only minor is that Norscot did not add the rear view mirrors which are standard on every machine. (Let us hope the operator can use the optional rear vision camera -) to watch his back!

The loader arms can be raised and the Caterpillar Z bar linkage system is functional, although unfortunately the range of movement is limited. The tip cylinder has flexible hose detail and the metal bucket has detailed teeth. The model is not equipped with a quick coupler, allowing the collector a choice of changing the bucket and therefore it requires serious adjustments to the frame if you want another work tool to be connected.

The paint finish on the Caterpillar 950H Wheel Loader is of a high standard, with an even coating allowing the surface detailing to show through while the printing of the Caterpillar logo, and the markings are authentically applied with all lights and the mirror surfaces decorated.

This Caterpillar 950H Wheel Loader is also available as a load in a set with the Kenworth W900 and Trail King low loader in Caterpillar livery being released as #55208 by Norscot.
