The Caterpillar 315 Excavator was introduced in 1995 and produced in the USA and Japan. The 315 has a 3046 six-cylinder diesel engine providing 99 hp.

Subsequently, Caterpillar has since developed the 315B, 315C, 315D, 315E, 315F, 315GC and since 2020 is the 315 (Next Gen) the latest addition to the 315 series.
