NEWS FLASH! The making of a Caterpillar Holt 75 Tractor

18 April 2020

Custom scale model builder Ad Gevers[abc] has recently finished a special custom repair project of a Caterpillar Holt 75 Track-Type Tractor.

Last month I got the oppertunity from a very good friend, Butch Diggins from Keystone Construction Diecast, in America to become the very rare Caterpillar Holt 75 Track-Type Tractor. Without any doubt THE number ONE on my must have missing scale models in my Caterpillar collection.

This handmade brass construction precision scale model is made in a limited edition of only 75 pieces in 2002 by CCM in scale 1:48. Besides that small number there have been released 300 pieces exclusively for the Caterpillar dealer HOLT. Butch did have #113 from the Holt dealer serie which unfortunately was not quite more whole and complete and which also lacked the luxurious gift box and the signed certificate. But still a unique opportunity .....

..... and so after (very) brief consultation with Ad we decided to take up the challenge to bring this Holt 75 to the Netherlands and restore it and restore it back to its former glory.

Curious? Then click for the complete story in the "Making of....Caterpillar Holt 75 Track-Type Tractor"

Enjoy reading & watching!

ANNOUNCEMENT! Caterpillar D7G [CCM 1:48]

16 April 2020

This week CCM has informed his dealers that two new scale models in their 1:48 Die-Cast series will be released:

  • Caterpillar D7G Track-Type Tractor w/ A Blade and Winch
  • Caterpillar D7G Track-Type Tractor w/ SU Blade and Mult-Shank Ripper

The Caterpillar D7 Track-Type Tractor has one of the more interesting histories of any of the machines in the Caterpillar lineup. First manufactured in 1938, the D7 has been in continuous production since then and has seen numerous upgrades throughout the years. Because of their versatility, they have fought in three major conflicts – WWII, Korea, and Vietnam. The newest being the Caterpillar D7E Track-Type Tractor which has even been equipped with an Electric Drive.

In 1974, the Caterpillar D7G Track-Type Tractor, was introduced as a replacement to the Caterpillar D7F.

Powered by a Caterpillar 3306 turbocharged diesel engine providing up to 180 HP at the flywheel. These workhorses are perfectly suited for many job sites and where purpose built for a wide variety of applications.

An armored version of the Caterpillar D7G Track-Type Tractor was used for minefield clearing operations and the Marine Corp. further developed the Caterpillar D7G into a remote controlled version for unmanned minefield clearing. These machines remained in operation with the USMC until they were retired from service in 2009.

image

Specification highlights:

  • Engine: Caterpillar 3306 Diesel Engine
  • Net Power: 180hp
  • Maximum Travel Speed: forward: 6.2 mph
  • Maximum Travel Speed: Reverse: 7.4 mph
  • Blade Capacity: 3.8 yd3

The first (pre) production scale model photos with all the details, the final limited production run numbers with sales price and the delivery schedule from both scale models will be posted on this website when available.

ANNOUNCEMENT! Caterpillar 365B L Series II [Diecast Masters 1:50]

4 April 2020

Diecast Masters has in accordance of the first annoucement of the 2020 line up announcend the next new to release Caterpillar scale model available from Q2-2020 in their 1:50th scale diecast "Core Classics Series":

  • Caterpillar 365B L Series II Hydraulic Excavator #85058c

Still a favorite in any fleet, the 1:1 Caterpillar 365B L Series II Hydraulic Excavator is at home in construction and demolition jobs, as well as mass excavation applications, quarries and mines. Powered by a Caterpillar 3196 engine producing 404 hp this machine

An eye-catching detail of the re-released Caterpillar 365B L Series II Hydraulic Excavator is the upgraded metal track undercarriage. Personally, I think it is a mistake that the correct color scheme and lettering (on behalf of Caterpillar itself!) has been adjusted to a later period and thus does injustice to a piece of history and the time period in which this machine was actually active. Never do it again!

The model is eqquiped with Moveable boom, stick and bucket and has new more realistic ladders, hoses and grab rails.
Unfortunately, the construction of the boom as a whole has not improved and there are three very ugly mounting holes on one side. Of course you can camouflage this and place the model with this ugly side not visible in your display setting but still a missed opportunity for me to let this scale model come to its full glory. A PITY!

The expected delivery time is early June 2020. The scale model Caterpillar 365B L Series II Hydraulic Excavator can already be ordered through the IMC Models Webshop

LATEST ADDITION! Caterpillar MP40 Shear Jaw [CCM 1:48]

22 March 2020

Last week I received from America this latest addition in my collection made by Classic Construction Models (CCM) and today I was able to take it to the photo set:

  • Caterpillar MP40 Shear Jaw

In 2020, CCM released three limited editions of the Caterpillar 375 Hydraulic Excavator in their 1:48th scale Diecast Series. The Caterpillar 375 Demolition version is equipped with a Caterpillar MP40 Shear Jaw from the Caterpillar Multi-Processor Work Tool Attachments program.

Through an American fellow collector (thanks J!) I came into possession of a original, but loose, Caterpillar MP40 Shear Jaw. You understand that I am extremely pleased with this "one of a kind custom" Multi-Processor Work Tool in my Caterpillar Collection.

Curious for more photos and information? I have add the complete review with more pictures from the Caterpillar MP40 Shear Jaw, Work Tool in 1:1 and background information in the category Work Tool Attachments under Multi-Processors.
