Agricultural Equipment

Caterpillar Challenger’s Agricultural Tractor history is rooted in the legendary track technology of Caterpillar, but has since been extended to incorporate wheeled tractors, combine harvesters and balers.

Although heavily involved in the farming market during the early and mid 20th century, Caterpillar began to focus on construction equipment as tractors with rubber tires came to dominate the farming market.

Caterpillar reentered the agricultural market with the Challenger line of rubber-tracked tractors. The Challenger tractor, together with its patented Mobil-trac™ system, was introduced in 1987. Mobil-trac was a major leap forward providing greater traction and flotation, reduced soil compaction and more versatility for reduced costs and more productivity on the farm.
Over the years the Challenger brand has developed and grown, going from strength to strength.

Improvements over the years have included a move from cable to hydraulics controls, computerized monitoring systems, torque dividers, planetary power shift transmissions, differential steering – the list goes on.

In 2002, Caterpillar sold the line to AGCO who manufacture the MT ‘B’-series tractors and then the 'C' series under the AGCO Challenger brand, as we know today - one of the most powerful and profitable agricultural tractors in the market and sold through (Caterpillar) dealers.
